José Luis Martín Descalzo (1930-1991)
Spanish novelist born in Madridejos (Toledo). He studied in Rome. In 1953 he
became a priest, and he was professor of Literature at the seminary of
Valladolidn and directed, in the same city, a theatre of the Royal Palace. In
1956 he was awarded with the Nadal Prize. His literary works include fiction,
essays, drama, and poetry. Among his poetry works we must quote: "Fábulas con
Dios al fondo" (1957), "Camino de la cruz" (1957), "Querido mundo terrible"
(1970), "Apócrifo" (1975), "Apócrifo del domingo" (1983) and "El joven Dios"
(1986). As far as fiction is concerned, we must add: "Diálogos de cuatro muertos"
(1954), "La frontera de Dios" (1956), "El hombre que no sabía pecar" (1961), "Lobos,
perros y corderos" (1978), "El demonio de media tarde" (1982), "Paco y su gata"
(1984). Plays: "La hoguera feliz" (1962), "A dos barajas" (1972) y "Las
prostitutas os precederán en el reino de los cielos" (1986).
