British writer. His father was a diplomat. Educated at Oxford University he entered the diplomatic service in 1909. He attended the Versailles Peace Conference in 1919. In 1913 married Vita Sackville-West. Nicolson published biographies of Tennyson, Lord Byron and Swinburne. In 1931 Nicolson joined Sir Oswald Mosley and his recently formed New Party. He edited the party newspaper, Action. Nicolson entered the House of Commons as National Labour MP in the 1935. Nicolson served as Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Information in the coalition government formed by Winston Churchill in 1940.
