Daniel de Montmollin (1921)
Friar Daniel lives in the Taizé Community in Burgundy, France. He has been
making pottery for fifty years. As a ceramic artist he is in a direct contact
with the elements. Each stage of this craft is in a triad of alliances, linked
with nature, itself and other people. Water and fire are quarrelling siblings
who are reconciled by the potter and persuaded to co-operate. Pottery, with its
origin dating back to the beginning of time, offers continuously reviving values
for the man of today. Every day friar Daniel shares his work and its values with
those who visit his workshop: children, friends and his brothers and sisters
from the community. |
